Look, I'm not gonna feed you some polished corporate origin story. Back in 2018, I was just a guy who'd gotten tired of Vancouver's overpriced gyms that felt more like social clubs than actual training spaces. After spending years climbing outdoors - Squamish, Chief, you name it - I figured there had to be a better way to bring that raw, authentic climbing experience indoors.
Started with a single 30-foot wall in a converted warehouse space that honestly looked pretty rough around the edges. My buddies thought I'd lost it, sinking my savings into what they called "expensive plywood." But here's the thing - climbers don't need fancy lounges and overpriced smoothie bars. They need good holds, solid routes, and people who actually get it.
Seven years later, we've grown into something I'm genuinely proud of. Not because we're the biggest or the flashiest, but because we've stayed true to what matters - helping folks push their limits without the pretentious gym culture BS.
Opened with one climbing wall and a dream. Just me, my business partner Sarah, and about 15 routes we'd set ourselves. Had maybe 30 members that first month, most of 'em friends who felt sorry for us.
Realized pretty quick that climbers needed more than just walls. Your fingers can only take so much daily abuse, y'know? Built out a proper strength training area with equipment actually useful for climbers - none of that fancy chrome stuff that looks pretty but doesn't do jack.
Yeah, that sucked. Won't sugarcoat it - thought we were done for. But our members rallied hard. Started outdoor training sessions in small groups, virtual coaching for home workouts. Lost money, sure, but kept the community alive. That's when I knew we'd built something real.
Took over the unit next door. Added a proper bouldering cave, more training space, and finally got that lead climbing wall I'd been dreaming about. Membership shot up to over 400. People were hungry to move again.
Never thought I'd be running competitions, but our crew kept pushing for it. Brought in climbers from all over BC. Seeing 200+ people crushing routes on walls we'd built ourselves? Man, that hit different. Started our youth program that same year too.
Hired three full-time coaches with actual credentials and competition experience. Not just folks who liked climbing - real deal trainers who've sent V10s and up. Started offering personalized training programs that actually work, not cookie-cutter BS.
Invested heavy in new holds, rotated all routes quarterly instead of whenever we felt like it. Added a spray wall for the real send-lords. Got serious about our strength programs too - brought in Olympic lifting platforms and proper training equipment.
We're at 800+ members now, which is wild to think about. But we haven't lost what made us different in the first place. Still setting honest routes, still calling out bad form, still more interested in helping people progress than making everything "Instagram-ready." That's the goal moving forward - grow without selling out.
Here's the deal - we're not trying to be the fanciest gym in Vancouver. We're trying to be the realest one.
And we know most of 'em by name
Always something new to project
And just getting started
Been climbing for 15 years, coaching for 8. Still can't crimp worth a damn but I'll spot you on that dyno. Former engineer who traded spreadsheets for chalk bags and never looked back.
The one who actually knows what she's doing. Competed nationally for years before settling down to torture you all with her evil boulder problems. If a route feels impossible, it's probably her handiwork.
Ex-powerlifter who discovered climbing and never went back. Runs our strength programs and makes sure you're not skipping antagonist training. Yeah, you still need to work those shoulders.
We've got plans, don't worry
Planning monthly trips to Squamish and other local crags. Because gym climbing's great, but nothing beats real rock under your fingers.
Working with sports scientists to develop proper periodized training programs. No more just "climb until your fingers hurt" approach.
Expanding our kids' programs because we've got some seriously talented young climbers coming up. Future Olympians train here, you heard it first.
More competitions, clinics, and social sessions. Building a community that actually cares about each other, not just collecting followers.
Come check us out. First session's on us - no strings attached, no sales pitch.
